Ann was born on January 29th, 1825 in Bury and her baptism took place on April 17th, 1825 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Ann's father was Francis Mather and her mother was Margaret Horrocks.  Her paternal grandparents were Francis Mather and Elizabeth Chadwick. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Martha and Margaret.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
