Elizabeth was born on January 1st, 1817 in Redvales and her baptism took place on March 5th, 1817 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Elizabeth's father was Francis Mather and her mother was Margaret Horrocks.  Her paternal grandparents were Francis Mather and Elizabeth Chadwick. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, John, Mary, Martha, Margaret and Ann.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
