Elizabeth was born in December 1854 in Whitefield.1  Elizabeth's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Mary Ann Pickstones.  Her paternal grandparents were Jesse Mather and Hannah Emmerson. She had a sister named Sarah.  She was the younger of the two children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Jesse, Richard, Nancy, Eliza, Margaret and Mary.
