Alice's father was Edmund Berry and her mother was Esther Mather (Allen).  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Allen and Alice Mather.  Jesse Mather and Hannah Emmerson were her grandparents through her mother's adoption. She had two sisters named Ellen and Grace.  She was the oldest of the three children.
