Margaret was born on January 31st, 1815 in Whitefield and her baptism took place on March 5th, 1815 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Margaret's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Esther Barlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Scholes. She had two brothers named Samuel and James.  She was the youngest of the three children.
