Betty, known as Kitty, was born in December 1844 in Whitefield.1  Kitty's father was Joseph Mather and her mother was Nancy Redford.  Her paternal grandparents were Jesse Mather and Hannah Emmerson. She had two brothers named Joseph and Francis.  She was the oldest of the three children.
