Know each other: In 1810, Solomon Mather had Betty baptised at Tottington (maybe), and Thomas had Alice baptised there.
They are probably related and must have known each other if both at Tottington.
However, All England Baptism's including St Anns, Turton as Tottington (so may not be the same chapel) Representative of: In 1877, Older brother Rovert was marriage witness to Isaac and Amelia's marriage.
Neighbor: In 1841, Thomas Mather (nephew ? - TBC) also lived at Nuttall, Holcombe. His mother is probably Betty who he was with. Lives with: In 1891, Minnie Bridge was with her grandparents Thomas and Mary A at Ramsbottom Lives with: James died at Simons in 1822. This is also where James and Hannah heap lived in 1841 (and earlier) Relative of: In 1825, Betty Mather was a marriage witness for here sister Hannah Mather Relative of: Possible brothers as James from Ramsbottom and Thomas from Holcombe (or Tottington) Relative of: Sisters. Alice took on Betty's 3 children after Betty died in 1844.
Both families lived at Holcombe, North Bury 1812 - 1898 Isaac Mather 86 86 4 Sep 1812, Isaac was baptised the son of Solomon and Mally Mather of Edgworth.  He was baptised with his baby cousin Alice Waddiker (Mally's sister Alice'e daughter)

In 1839, Isaac, son of Solomon, a mechanic from Edgworth
was a widower when he married Sarah Smith.  He was NOT in Montgomery, PA - That is another.

About 1840, Isaac and Sarah (nee Smith) moved to the USA.  Daughter Mary was buried there in 1840.

In 1851, Isaac and Sarah (both 37) are at Southbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA with William H (8), Elisabeth (6), James A (4), and Susannah (2).

In 1870, Isaac and Sarah (60 & 54) are at Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island.

In 1880, Isaac and Sarah (69 & 63) were at Warrick, Kent, Rhode Island.  This Sarah was his third wife, married in Bolton in 1839.

Isaac from Edgworth has been reported by some as born 27 Oct 1799 (this is an error), died 1898 (aged 99) who married three times, the last marriage being Sarah Langford (also wrong), before they emigrated to the USA.  This Isaac was already in the US by 1850, and was actually born 1812, which explains why he was so fit at 99. Sarah Langford actually married Morgan Pender in Q3/1838, while another Isaac Mathers married Esther Kershaw, both at Manchester.
1789 - 1854 Solomon Mather 64 64 There is no baptism record for this Solomon.  We know he was born 1789 in Turton from his death record (aged 64) and census returns. However it is unlikely he is the son of the other Solomon from Turton who married Martha in 1790, as there are early Turton baptism records for his children, Betty and James in 1791 and 1792.  Therefore, this Solomon is more likely to be the son of one of his brothers, most likely Isaac.  This would also explain the name of their first son Isaac in 1812 and the 4 year gap in birth after they married.

9 Aug 1909, Solomon Mather, a weaver, married Mary Grime.

20 Mar 1819, Solomon was charged at Lancaster Assized for issuing forged one pound bank note at Bolton and similar offence at Sharples.

Solomon's wife was Mary Grime.  The Manchester Mercury (Tue 6 Apr 1819) records Peter Howcroft, William Entwistle, James Grime, Solomon Mather (and others) were all transported for 14 years for having forged bank notes.  The Lancaster Gazette also shows Solomon was aged 29, so this is him!  This is also listed in the England and Wales Criminal Register. Solomon was released after 6 of his 14 year sentence and returned to his wife Mary where it appears he had two more children after a 15 year gap.

1829 - 1830 Amos and Fanny are born and baptised at Edgworth Independent, and after that there's no trace of Amos.

in 1839 when Isaac married, he recorded his father Solomon as a Mechanic.

In 1841, Solomon and Mally were at Crownpoint, Edgworth, Solomon an Ag. Labourer.  They had daughter Alice Hargreaves (25, F.S.) and her daughter Margret (4) with them.

30 Sep 1848, The Manchester Examiner records that the Licence of the Dog (Inn) in Brown Street was transferred from Thomas Sawdon to Solomon Mather.

In 1849: Solomon never learned his lessons.  He was sent down again for 6 months with hard labour for keeping a disorderly house at John Street, Bury (probably the Talbot Inn).

Solomon and Mally were alive in 1851, with Solomon a Publican at the Talbot, 18 Brown Street, L.B.  He had his daughter Alice Hargreaves with him working as the Cook.  John and Elizabeth Mather (both born about 1808) were also at Brown Street in 1841, so may be related.  Alice remarried in Dec 1852, also showing Solomon as a publican.

In 1853, Solomon is shown at the Talbot Inn (Old Dog), 18 Brown Street in the Whellan & Co Trade Directory.  James Grime (probably related to his wife Mary Grime) was at the Wagon and Horses, 172 Blackburn Street, Little Bolton.  His son Isaac also had a Beer House at Edgworth.

Solomon left a Will, probate dated 29 Apr 1854, where he is described as an Inn Keeper.  The Talbot Inn (also known as the Old Dog) closed in 1879.

Solomon's death in April 1854 was reported in the Bolton Chronicle: "On the 13th inst., very suddenly, Mr Solomon Mather of the Talbot Inn, Brown Street, Little Bolton."  The Inn was a working man’s pub, and a meeting place for Bolton's "Radicals".
1816 - 1890 Isaac Mather 74 74 Isaac was probably the son of Thomas and Ann (but probably NOT Ann Holt, married 1810), a Weaver from Bury (perhaps Whitefield where brother Francis and sister Mary were born in 1820 and 1822).

Isaac Mather and Mary Taylor of Unsworth married at Prestwich, Bury in 1836.  WARNING: There are two other Mather & Taylor families in Bury (shown here).

In 1838 and 1841 there were two births registered for John Mather, MMN = TAYLOR at Holcombe.

In 1841, Isaac and Mary (both 20), Cotton Weaver were at Nuttall, Holcombe, Bury with no children.  Mary's assumed mother Nancy Taylor (55) was living with them.

In 1851, Isaac and Ann (both 35) had Ann (15) and Nancy (5) at Pemhole Place, Bury, Lancashire.

In 1852, James Edward was born in Bury.

In 1882, Isaac Mather, Weaver, was living at Elm, New Hampshire.

In 1890, Isaac was at Women's Aid and Relief Society Hoispital, Young, cor. Willow.  He died 28 July 1890, aged 74
1816 - 1878 Mary Taylor 62 62 Mary of Yate Bank, Darwen, daughter of George a Collier.

The 1851 census shows Mary and Isaac (both 35) with daughters Ann (15) and Nancy) at Bury.  Mary was born at Darwen.
1836 Ann Mather There is no baptism for Ann daughter of Isaac and she wasnt with her parents in 1841.  She may be adopted!

In 1851, Ann (15) and Nancy (5) were with parents Isaac and Mary at Pemhole Place, Bury, Lancashire.
1846 - 1927 Nancy Mather 81 81 There is no birth record for Nancy Mather, MMN = TAYLOR, so she may be adopted.

In 1851, Ann (15) and Nancy (5) were with parents Isaac and Mary at Pemhole Place, Bury, Lancashire.

Nancy Mather (but not the Nancy Maria Mather daughter of Solomon who married Joseph Jackson in 1868) birth is not registered.
1844 - 1933 Charles Bradley Brown 89 89 1852 James Edward Mather In 1852, James Edward, nother TAYLOR, was born in South Bury 1787 James Mather James didn't have his first 3 children baptised until 1817.  This may have been because he wasnt married. Therefore a marriage to Mary or Nancy at Bury (or Accrington N of Ramsbottom) in 1816 is a good match.  On 29 Apr 1816, James Mather, a Dyer married Mary Stott at Bury

7 May 1827, James and Mary (both 40) and children John (14), Elizabeth (10), Hannah (10), Rachel (8), Martha (6), Sarah (5), James (3) and Mary (1), all from Ramsbottom sailed to NY, USA.

In 1860, James and Mary E (81 & 71) were in Dunbar, Fayete,  Pennsylvania but this may be another copule, born in the USA.
1787 Mary (Nancy) Stott Possible early marriages:
Nancy Barnes of Walmersley married 1 Jan 1806
Mary Walker of Whitefield married 15 Oct 1807

James didn't have his first 3 children baptised until 1817.  This may have been because he wasnt married. Therefore a marriage to Mary or Nancy at Bury (or Accrington N of Ramsbottom) in 1816 is a good match.  On 29 Apr 1816, James Mather, a Dyer married Mary Stott at Bury.
1812 - 1849 John Mather 37 37 In 1827, the family including John (14) from Ramsbottom travelled to USA.

In June 1841, John (28), Martha (21), and James (21) arrived in Philadelphia, PA from Liverpool.
1816 Hannah Mather 1819 Rachel Mather Rachel was not baptised, although 5 other children were baptised in 1817, 1819 and 1821 at Accrington.

There is another Rachel, daughter of James a weaver born 1816 who married James Robinson.

In 1827, Rachel (aged 8) travelled to the US with parents James and Mary (both 40) and John, Elizabeth, Martha, Sarah, James and Mary
1819 - 1902 Martha Mather 82 82 In 1827, the family including Martha (6) from Ramsbottom travelled to USA.

In June 1841, John (28), Martha (21), and James (21) arrived in Philadelphia, PA from Liverpool.

In 1900, Another (or possibly the same) James Mather, aged 74, born 1825 England, was a Grocer on the Falls Road, Baltimore, Maryland and had been in the US 54 years.  He had a daughter Emily born 1868 in Maryland.  He was a shoemaker when younger.

15 April 1887, John died at Racine, Wisconsin, USA.  The obituary reports he was from Bolton, Lancashire, born 1810, although DOB matches the baptism of John at Samlesbury near Preston, 14 miles North of Bolton

The headstone shows his wife as H Stephenson, died 30 Aug 1887, aged 68
1843 - 1844 Alice Mather 10m 10m Alice was born 1843 and died 1844, aged 0.  The birth and death are registered in North Bury, but there is no baptism of burial to confirm this is the daughter of Isaac.  However, it is very likely since the mother's maiden name is Taylor. 1830 - 1893 Mary Ann (Martha) Jane Bolton 63 63 "Mary Ann Jane Bolton" was baptised at Blackburn 26 Sep 1830, the daughter of Robert and Mary Bolton.
