Mary was born in 1821 in Ashworth and her baptism took place on April 22nd, 1821 in Heywood.1  Mary's father was John Barlow and her mother was Mary Meaden. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Robert, John, Ann, Sally, Rachael, Margaret, Susanna  and Jane.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
