Robert was born in 1814 in Ashworth and his baptism took place on May 29th, 1814 in Heywood.1  Robert's father was John Barlow and his mother was Mary Meaden. He had a brother and seven sisters, named John, Ann, Sally, Rachael, Mary, Margaret, Susanna  and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.
