Emma was born in March 1871 in Tranmere.1  Emma's father was James Mather and her mother was Fanny Davies.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Alice Tweedy. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, James, Justin, Alice and Kate.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died in 1871 in Tranmere.2
