James married Sarah Nancy Aked, and between 1841-51 James moved from Bury to Lichfield, Staffs.
After they married, James and Sarah lived at Heap Bridge, Heywood (East of Bury). He was at Heap Fold when Edmund baptised in 1827.
In 1841, James, a paper dealer, and Sarah (both 35) were at Heap Brow, Heywood, (nr Bury) with Edmund (14), John (12), Alice (8), Robert (7), Alfred (5), Frederic (3) and Aked (2mo)
In 1851, James, a paper maker, and Sarah (48 & 47) were at Alton, Staffordshire with 6 children.
There is another James Mather from Middleton, son of James and Alice. This James died in Farnworth in 1873, aged 73. It is this James, a shopkeeper, that married a much (22y) younger Ann Leah in 1860, the daughter of Joseph and Mary.
