Edmund's father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah Aked. His paternal grandparents were Bold (Bould) Mather and Alice Taylor. He had five brothers and a sister, named John, Robert, Alfred, Frederick, Aked and Alice. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 90 on May 16th, 1918 in Dauphin County. His burial was on May 16th, 1918 in Dauphin County.³
