Herbert was born in October 1905 in Prestwich.¹

Birth Notes

Herbert's father was William Thorpe and his mother was Rosaline Jane May. His paternal grandparents were Robert Thorpe and Nancy Mather. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Harold, Florence, Dorothy and Marjorie. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died as an infant in October 1905 in Manchester.
