Richard's father was
Richard Mather and his mother was
Ann Howarth. His paternal grandparents were
John Mather and
Ellen Blinstone; his maternal grandparents were
Edmund Howarth and
Anne. He had three brothers and five sisters, named
Isaac,
James,
Solomon,
Susannah,
Susan,
Nancy,
Ann and
Alice. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 74 on August 31st, 1851 in
Baltimore County. He was buried on September 4th, 1851.
