- One of the first pages of the Walmsley Chapel Meeting House (Presbyterian) is dominated by two Mather families, William+Ann and Peter+Ellin. These two families were to be the grandparents of Samuel Mather (1791-1854) and Alice Mather (1792-1879) who married 9 September 1810. Therefore Samuel and Alice (the parents of John Mather) were second cousins.

Ann was born in 1775 in Turton and her baptism took place on October 15th, 1775 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by minister John Aspinal.¹

  The Ann Mather that married Richard Greenhalgh was probably born between 1750 and 1780. There are no matching births in Bury, three possible baptisms from Bolton:
  
  (1) 11 May 1761: Ann daughter of Thomas & Christian Mather
  (i.e. Anne, daighter of Christian or Christiana of Bank Street)
  
  (2) 11 Mar 1771: Add daughter of John & Martha Mather
  (i.e. Anne Mather, also baptised Bank Street, but died an infant)
  
  (3) 15 Oct 1775: Ann daughter of Richard & Ann Mather

Ann's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Ann Howarth. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Blinstone; her maternal grandparents were Edmund Howarth and Anne. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, James, Solomon, Richard, Susanna, Susan, Nancy and Alice. She was the seventh oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 54 in March 1829 in Harwood. Her burial was on March 29th, 1829 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²

General Notes
- Ann may have married Richard Greenhalgh (weaver) or Peter Morris (both m.1806) or Ralph Isherwood (m.1811). Ann and Peter Morris had 5 children baptised in Deane 1813-1824. However, Richard and Ann Greenhalgh had their children baptised at St Peters which is a better match. There is also a matching death for Ann Greenhalgh.
  
  In 1841, there is Ann Morris, aged 66, F.S. for Thomas and Betty Collins at Waterloo, Holcombe, Bury, which could be her! There was also an Ann (60, weaver) in the Turton Workhouse.
