Giles Howarth

Giles was born in 1672 in Lower Darwen and his baptism took place on September 3rd, 1672 in Blackburn.¹

  Giles, son of Edmund Haworth of Lower Darwen, baptised 3 Sep 1672

Giles' father was Edmund Howarth and his mother was <unknown>. He had a sister named Alice. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 67 in June 1739 in Lower Darwen. His burial was on June 16th, 1739 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Blackburn).¹¹

- WARNING: There is another Giles Haworth of Eccleshill who had a son Giles in Dec 1709 and Edmund (of Low Ecclehill in Oct 1710.
  
  Giles Howarth of Lower Darwen was a Webster (weaver) when his first 3 sons were baptised.
  
  29 June 1699, Giles married Mary Yates. They had at least 9 sons, but no daughters!
  
  Another Giles Howarth, son of Giles Howarth of Newfield (????-1590) was a murderer and outlawed (see Darwen and its People, Book)
  
  29 June 1699, Giles Haworth and Mary Yates, both of Lower Darwen, were married at Blackburn.
  
  In November 1739, wife Mary of Lower Darwen died. Giles survived another 18 months, dying June 1739, a husbandman.

- From 1700 to 1703 Giles' occupation was Webster in Lower Darwen.
  - Occupation Notes
    - Described as a Webster of Lower Darwen on Richard, Edmund and James baptism records. A Webster is a term used for a female weaver, but here a type of Weaver.
  His occupation was Husbandman in Lower Darwen. He died in June 1739 while still employed there.

    - John is NOT the son of this Giles, as Giles the Inn Holder died in 1780.
      There must be another Giles Haworth born about 1700 to 1708.
