Illegitimate son of Ann Mather of Little Bolton born April 1805.
Possible fathers are Peter Morris and Richard Greenhalgh (amongst others) who Ann married the following year.
The Robert Mather that married Ann Ainsworth and lived at Cox Green, Turton was older, a stone quarryman.
Once his parents married Robert may have taken his fathers name, so became Robert Greenhalgh (there is no trace of a Robert Mather).
10 Sep 1826, Robert Greenhalgh married Jane Rushton.
In 1841, Robert and Jane (both 35) were with Abraham (14), Betty (13), John (11), Henry (7), Christiana (5), and Robert (7 Mo) at Johnson Street, East Bolton
By 1851, both Robert and Jane may have died, as their youngest son Peter was described as an orphan.
7 Oct 1860, there is a Robert Greenhalgh (56, widower, son of Richard a crofter) a labourer who married Ann Partington (49, widow, daughter of RIchard Holden) at St Mary's, Deane. Both were from Halliwel. This is another Robert.
