Susan was born in 1766 in Turton and her baptism took place on September 12th, 1766 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by minister John Aspinal.1  Susan's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Ann Howarth.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranshaw; her maternal grandparents were Edmund Howarth and Anne. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, James, Solomon, Richard, Susanna, Nancy, Ann and Alice.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 87 in 1853 in Turton.  She was buried on March 27th, 1853 in Turton.1 2

‌Susan and Richard were married in a religious ceremony on October 7th, 1787 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by Jn'o Whittle and witnessed by John Wood & Richard Mangnall.3  They had three sons named Thomas, Thomas and Richard.  There are no more children.
