David was born in 1823 in Middleton.1  David's father was Moses Mather and his mother was Nanny Buckley.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Alice Collinge. He had a sister named Martha.  He was the older of the two known children.  He died at the age of 66 in 1889.
