Mary was born in 1858 in Middleton.1  Mary's father was David Mather and her mother was Ann Jaques.  Her paternal grandparents were Moses Mather and Nanny Buckley. She had a brother and two sisters, named James, Martha and Betty.  She was the youngest of the four children.
