Betty's father was David Mather and her mother was Ann Jaques.  Her paternal grandparents were Moses Mather and Nanny Buckley. She had a brother and two sisters, named James, Martha and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the four children.  She died at the age of 2 in 1853 in Middleton.¹
