Martha was born in 1847 in Middleton.1  Martha's father was David Mather and her mother was Ann Jaques.  Her paternal grandparents were Moses Mather and Nanny Buckley. She had a brother and two sisters, named James, Betty and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
