Nancy Bromiley

Nancy was born on August 11th, 1800 in Harwood and her baptism took place on October 17th, 1800 at Bank Street Unitarian.¹

  No abode shown on baptism. In 1822, their son John was baptised, abode Harwood.

Nancy's father was Arthur Bromiley and her mother was Ellen Entwistle. Her paternal grandparents were Arthur Bromiley and Mary Croshaw. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Samuel and Esther. She was the oldest of the five children. She died whilst giving birth at the age of 22 in December 1822 in Harwood. Her burial was on December 6th, 1822 at Bradshaw Chapel.²³

  Although indexed 1822, the burial is recorded under the section titled "Burials at Bradshaw Chapel inb 1823" However, 1822 appears to be the correct date for the signature of James Slade (vicar) on the following page, for records ending 31 Dec 1822.

General Notes
- Nancy may have had a son Janes about one year before she died. James, son of Nancy Mather of G.B. was buried 29 Dec 1822, aged 8 months.
  
  Nancy Mather (1800-1822) was originally thought to be the daugher of Richard Mather and Hannah Knowles. However once it was realised that Nathaniel is also from Harwood and their oldest son, then Nancy is clearly his first wife.
  
  Nathaniel and Nancy had a son John in Nov 1822, but Nancy died during or soon after giving birth. John died 9 months later. They are buried together at Bradshaw Chapel.
