John was born on March 13th, 1806 in Harwood and his baptism took place on April 17th, 1806 at Bank Street Unitarian.1  John's father was Arthur Bromiley and his mother was Ellen Entwistle.  His paternal grandparents were Arthur Bromiley and Mary Croshaw. He had a brother and three sisters, named James, Nancy, Samuel and Esther.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
