Sarah was born in 1789 in Middleton and her baptism took place on September 27th, 1789 at St. Leonard (Middleton).1  Sarah's father was James Mather and her mother was Alice Collinge. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Richard, Luke, Moses, David, Leah and Lucy.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
