Mary's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Eckersley.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Bould, Bury, Otho, Thomas, Rachel, Rachel and Ann.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 2 in July 1797 in Astley.  He was buried on July 19th, 1797 at St. Stephens (Astley).²
