Otho Mather

Otho was born in 1787 in Astley and his baptism took place on February 11th, 1787 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).¹²

  It is likely that the Manchester reiister was inclrrectly copied from the parish register, with "Otho" being read as a similar looking "Thos"

Otho's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Eckersley. His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Bould, Bury, Mary, Thomas, Rachel, Rachel and Ann. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 68 in December 1855 in Ashton-under-Lyne.³
