John was born in February 1775 in Kearsley and his baptism took place on February 26th, 1775 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1 2  John's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann Eckersley.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Bould, Bury, Otho, Mary, Thomas, Rachel, Rachel and Ann.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 75 on September 8th, 1850 in Bolton.  He was buried on September 11th, 1850 at St. Mary (Deane).3 4

‌John and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on September 14th, 1790 at St. Mary (Deane) by Vicar Richard Latham and witnessed by James Ryley & James Heatherat.5   They had two sons and three daughters, named William, George, Sarah, Jane and Mary.  The family line is yet to be completed.  William and Jane were twins.
