Florence's father was Joseph Miller and her mother was Jane Mather. Her maternal grandparents were William Mather and Eliza Graham. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Harry, William, John, Fred, Alfred, Alice, Mary, Eliza and Maria. She was the youngest of the ten children.
