Jane was born in June 1855 in Middleton and her baptism took place on January 6th, 1856 at St. Leonard (Middleton).¹²

Jane's father was William Mather and her mother was Eliza Graham. Her paternal grandparents were Nathaniel (Nathan) Mather and Alice Brooks. She had four brothers and six sisters, named John, Joseph, Alfred, Fred, Hannah, Polly, Alice, Eliza, Marion and Martha. She was the third oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 67 in December 1922 in Rhodes (nr. Middleton). Her burial was on December 26th, 1922 in Rhodes (nr. Middleton).

- In 1873, Jane Mather married Joseph Miller at Bradshaw, St Maxentius, Bolton. Its strange Jane should marry here, not Rhodes, (and this is the first of 6 unrelated Mather marriages here).
