Thomas Mather

Thomas was born in 1830 in Sharples.¹

Birth Notes
- Aged 12, or 18 (or 8) in 1841
  Aged 21 in 1851
  
  Thomas in 1841, but would have been 11 if the 1851 census is correct. There is a Thomas listed on the 1841 census with Richard Mather (head, 60). Thomas (18 or maybe 8) is listed after James (15), so either not a son of Richard or actually age 8.
  
  Thomas was 21, unmarried in 1851, living with "brother" James.
  Recorded as Sharples, so probably born Harwood as the other family.

He had eight brothers and three sisters, named Nathan, William, Robert, Richard, John, Henry, James, Peter, Rachel, Catherine and Ann. He was adopted by Richard Mather & Hannah Knowles. Thomas is no longer alive.

General Notes
- This may be the Thomas son of David Magnall, probably the illegitimate daughter of Betty Mather from Hawkshaw Lane (about 4 miles North of Harwood).
  
  It not clear how old Thomas is. In 1841, the census age appears to been been altered from 12 to 8.
  
  This may also be the Thomas Lee Mather (1832-1907), born England, who in about 1862 married to Mary in Hartford, Connecticut, USA
