Edward was born in 1836 in Bolton and his baptism took place on July 10th, 1836 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹²

Edward's father was John Entwisle and his mother was Rachel Mather. His paternal grandparents were Ralph Entwistle and Mrtha Entwistle; his maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Hannah Knowles. He had two half-brothers named Thomas and William. He died at the age of 75 on October 3rd, 1911 in New York.
