Nathaniel's father was Robert Thorpe and his mother was Nancy Mather. His maternal grandparents were Nathaniel (Nathan) Mather and Alice Brooks. He had four brothers and a sister, named Walter, Edward, Harry, William and Alice. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 74 on March 21st, 1938 in Rhodes (nr. Middleton). His burial was on March 24th, 1938 in Rhodes (nr. Middleton).²
