Thomas was born in 1827 in Astley and his baptism took place on July 14th, 1827 at St. Stephens (Astley).¹

Birth Notes

Thomas' father was Otho Mather and his mother was Rhoda Unsworth. His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Eckersley. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Peter, James, Walter, Ellis, Ann, Elizabeth and Hannah. He was the youngest of the eight children.
