Nancy was born in September 1846 in Mellor.1  Nancy's father was William Mather and her mother was Margaret Pomfret. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Nicholas, Amos, Zephaniah, Mary and Margaret.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 17 in 1863.
