Peter Mather

Peter was born in 1825 in Harwood and his baptism took place on November 13th, 1825 in Bolton.¹²

Peter's father was Nathaniel (Nathan) Mather and his mother was Alice Brooks. His paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Hannah Knowles. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Nathaniel, Joseph, Hannah, Nancy and Alice. He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named John. He died after 1861 in Middleton.

  A Peter Mather of Middle Hulton was buried 5 July 1844, aged 19, but this must be another
  
  Peter aged 15 in 1841 at Middleton, so is this the same person. Ages match perfectly. Peter, son of Nathanial married at Manchester in 1847, so not the Peter that died.
  
  Mattha was Head and Married in 1861, so Peter was away (or left her) before then.

  Peter was missing in 1851, and there is a gap in births until Joseph was born in 1859. Did he go to America to visit his uncle? His grandfather Richard died there in August 1851.

  From 1847 to after 1873 his occupation was Labourer in Rhodes (nr. Middleton).
