Lucy's father was John Mather and her mother was Sally Tong.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Alice Collinge. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Ashton, Charles, Henry, Betty and Rachel.  She was the third youngest of the six children.

‌Lucy and John were married in a religious ceremony on March 6th, 1836 at St. Leonard (Middleton).  The family line is yet to be completed.
