1 Oct 1815, Samuel Mather, a Fuller, Bachelor, married Alice Greenhalgh, a spinster at St Mary the Virgin, Bury. Witnesses were James Milnes and Thomas Crompton.
In 1841, Samuel, 45 (and Alice, 45), recorded as a Fuller when John was born. Fuller, a worker who cleanses wool through the process of fulling. They lived at Cresent Row, North Bury and in 1841 had 6 children.
WARNING: There's another Samuel Mather who was an Iron Moulder with sons William, Ralph and George.

In 1890, Robert Mather was living at 336 & 338 Bury New Road, Pilkington (leashold house over 60 years)
He did not marry Ann Goodall in Middleton in 1850. That was another Robert Mather, son of Samuel, both (coal) Miners. There's also another Robert, son of James Mather who married Mary Sharples in 1878, who was also born 1818.

Robert is a bit of a mystery. In 1851 he recorded his name as Thomas, although wife and all the children's names match.
1841 in Salford, Calico Printer with Mary Ann, both age 30 (rounded), with Thomas (13), Julia (11), Harriet (6), John (4), and Robert (2).
1848 in the Salford court for Larceny, aged 36 – ok, that sounds like our lot.
1851-1881 in Salford (“Thomas” in 1851) with Mary Ann, Journeyman Calico Printer. 1861,71 records also show with Mary Ann and Mechanical Calico Printer from Pendleton. Widow in 1881.

Joseph (of Sharples) is one of only two Mathers to be buried at All Saints, Little Bolton. The other is his assumed son John. He is probably from Levenshulme where daughter Sarah was born in 1812.

In 1862, Lionel was baptised at Bury.
After Lionel was born, the family moved to Belfast (before the Titanic was built). Martha (b.1865), Edwin (b.1866), Grace (b.1870), Sarah (b.1873) were all born in Belfast.
They returned to Bury about 1876 and Fred (b.1877) and John (b.1880) were both born in Bury.
