George was born in 1829 in Little Bolton.1  George's father was Samuel Mather and his mother was Alice Mather.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Happy Lomax; his maternal grandparents were William Mather and Betty Holt. He had seven brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Isaac, William, James, John, Lomas, Samuel, James, Mary, Alice, Happy, Ellen, Maria and <child>.  He was the third youngest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 77 on June 2nd, 1906 in Bolton.  He was buried on June 6th, 1906 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.2 3

‌George and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on June 22nd, 1856 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by Curate W H Coates and witnessed by John Blackley & John Mather.10  They had two sons and two daughters, named Frederick, George, Clara and Emily.  There are no more children.
