In 1841, Samuel (aged 15, rounded) was with his parents and family at Waterloo, Little Bolton.
19 Feb 1849, Samuel Mather, spinner of Little Bolton, son of Samuel married Ann Nightingale. James Brooks, Samuel's brother-in-law (Alice Mather's husband), was a witness.
In 1851, Samuel and Ann (23 & 21) were living at 48 Blackburn Road. Ann Mather (37, Solomon's daughter) was a neighbour. Their first son John, born in 1849 had died an infant.
Between 1852-55 the family moved from Sharples to Eastern Bolton district between, then to Little Bolton by 1859.
In 1861, Samuel and Ann (34 & 31) were living at 12 Back Haigh Street with Alice (8), Samuel (6), and Margaret (2). They had a house servant Mary Nightingale, Ann's niece.
In 1871, Samuel and Ann (43 & 41) were at 73 Blackbank Street with Alice, Samuel, Margaret and George (18, 15, 11 & 4). James Cunliffe and Happy Hamer (22 & 24) were neighbours at 71. Phineas and Happy Shittleworth, son Samuel (16) and Jessie Collins (grandson, aged 6) and Alice Mather (Boarder, Wid, 82) were neighbours at no. 67.
Samuel Johnson and Jane Bleakley and family were also neighbours in 1861 and 1871, so may be related.
Samuel was a spinner when his children John and Alice were Baptised.
In 1898, Samuel died and Ann a year later. Samuel, Ann and three others are all buried in the same Mather grave at Astley Bridge.

In 1851, after he father Solomon died, Ann Mather (unmarried) lived at 46 Blackburn Road, Sharples. Neighbours at 48 Blackburn Road were Samuel Mather (her nephews son) and Ann Nightingale.
Samuel and Ann were married in a religious ceremony on February 19th, 1849 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by a curate and witnessed by James Brooks & James Liptrot.9
