- Will of James Lomax late of Rose Hill near Bolton in the county of Lancashire Yeoman deceased was proved and admon granted to James Cross and William Lomax the executors.

James was born in 1735 in Bolton and his baptism took place on July 17th, 1735 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

  There are several James Lomax'es, and this could be the wrong one, as no evidence of non-conformist religon. Marriage shows James from Bolton and Mary from Dean.

James' father was John Lomax and his mother was Ellen Cross. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Robert, John, Rachel and Betty. He was the second oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 96 in 1831 in Bolton.²

  There are buriels at Tyldsley and Ainsworth. Ainsworth is NE of Bolton and closer, so more likely. However Joseph Mather, a possible brother of Alice was from Tyldsley.
  
  Many different probate records (for Bolton) for James Lomax:
  1810 (Yeoman of Turton), 1817 (Breightmet), 1822 (Yeoman of Bolton),1824 (Weaver of G. Bolton), 1827, 1830 ... (and later).
  
  These are all probably too late, unless James was 96 when he died. James's grandaughter Happy was living at Rose Hill, Bolton in 1854 when her father James Mather died. This could be her grandfather's house: There's a probate for James Lomax in 1831: "Will of James Lomax late of Rose Hill near Bolton in the county of Lancashire Yeoman deceased was proved and admon granted to James Cross and William Lomax the executors. Under £800." Note James's mother was Ellen Cross.

General Notes
- James married Hannah about 1750 and had a daughter Mary buried at Breightmet 21 Feb 1753. They then had another Daughter Elizabeth in 1756 before Hannah died shortly after.
  
  27 May 1760, James Lomax (widower, born in Deane in 1735) then maried Mary Taylor (widow nee Bromiley). All their children where christened at Bank Street Unitarian (Bury), distinguishing them from the other famileys.
  
  Another James Lomax (born in Bolton about 1734) married Mary Crompton in 1759. Their children were recorded for Bolton Le Moors, with Mary Compton named as spouse.
  
  Another James Lomas (born in Bolton about 1735) married Sarah Kershaw on 17-Nov-1760.
  
  James Lomax was witness to Richard Mather and Ann Howarth's marriage 1761. Their son James Mather went on to Marry James's daughter Happy Lomax.
  
  Sunday School work in Edgworth started in cottages, one being at the Nursery at Greenthorne, the Barlows also ran a dame school. In 1802 there was a Sunday School at Tarkington run by two elderly men, James Lomas and Thomas Holt. To accommodate all the people it was held in the morning and the afternoon.
