    • The Bolton Chronicle:
      On the 20th instant, at Dukes Alley Chapel, by the Rev. J Fyfe. Baptist minister of Moor Lane, Great Bolton, Mr John Mather, of Little Bolton to Miss Elizabeth Kay, of Halliwell.
John was born in November 1815 in Little Bolton.1  John's father was Samuel Mather and his mother was Alice Mather.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Happy Lomax; his maternal grandparents were William Mather and Betty Holt. He had seven brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Isaac, William, James, Lomas, Samuel, George, James, Mary, Alice, Happy, Ellen, Maria and <child>.  He was the fifth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died  due to Chronic Hepatic disease and Jaundice at the age of 49 on March 21st, 1865 at 114 Chorley Street.  The funeral took place at Moor Lane Baptist.  He was buried on March 25th, 1865 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.2 3 4

‌John and Ellen were married in a religious ceremony on October 9th, 1837 at St. Mary (Deane) by Curate A W H Rose and witnessed by Abraham Boardman and Lomas Mather.5  They had two sons and a daughter, named Benjamin, Joe and Sarah.  There are no more children.
