Margaret was born in 1809 in Ashton-in-Makerfield.¹

Margaret's father was James Banks and her mother was Jane Crouchley. She had two sisters named Betty and Ellen. She was the second oldest of the three known children. She died at the age of 63 in September 1872 in Little Bolton.²
