Sarah was born in 1754 in Heaton Park and her baptism took place on April 25th, 1754 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Sarah's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary Mather. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, James, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Ellen, Jane and Nancy.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
