Elizabeth was born in 1750 in Heaton Park and her baptism took place on February 10th, 1750 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Elizabeth's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary Mather. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, James, William, Mary, Sarah, Ellen, Jane and Nancy.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
