Nancy was born in 1759 in Heaton Park and her baptism took place on June 2nd, 1759 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).1  Nancy's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary Mather. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, James, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Ellen and Jane.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
