Robert, "Grandson" was with Thomas and Ann in 1881 (aged 3) and 1891 (13). Not actually adopted, but living with his grandparents.
Who was Robert's father? Robert (b.1876), son of Richard married Eliza Greenhaigh in 1907, but his grandfather Thomas Mather didnt have a son Richard. He cant be John Robert Mather b.1877 son of John, both coal miners as that John was deceased. We could be missing a Richard from this family. Where was a Richard Mather born in Q4/1854 who in unaccounted for, and could fill a gap in the births.
Birth registers imply Robert is an illegitimate son, probably of Levinia or Ann.
