Maria was born in 1795 in Bolton and her baptism took place on June 21st, 1795 at Ridgway Gates Wesleyan conducted by minister Chris Hopper.¹²

Maria's father was James Mather and her mother was Happy Lomax. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth; her maternal grandparents were James Lomax and Mary Taylor. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, James, Maria and Nancy. She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Elizabeth. She died at the age of 62 in January 1857 in Little Bolton. Her burial was on January 21st, 1857 at St. Mary (Deane).³⁴

  Jan 1863, Maria Collins, Widow of Little Bolton died, aged 63, and was buried at Deane.
