James Mather

James was born in 1785 in Bolton and his baptism took place on April 10th, 1785 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

  James was baptised with John, son of John and Margaret Maken.
  
  This James is baptised April before his parents were married in Sep 1785.
  
  There is another James son of James and Betty Knowles baptised 15 Jan 1875 at Walmsley. The mother was names, so this James can not be the son of Bertty Knowles, and there is only one other James & Betty marriage.

James' father was James Mather and his mother was Betty Lyon. His paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth. He had a sister named Elizabeth. He was the older of the two children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Samuel, James, Maria, Maria and Nancy.

- WARNING: There are several problems with the placement of James here. There is another James born 1787 the son of Isaac and Alice (without a baptism record).
  
  Two James's, son of James and Betty got baptised in 1785. First Methodist, and then CoE (both at Turton, 4 months appart). One was the son of Betty Knowles, the other of Betty Lyon.
