Sarah was born in 1812 in Bolton.1  Sarah's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Mitchell.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Sarah Makin. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Helen.  She was the oldest of the three known children.  She died at the age of 33 in December 1845 in Bolton.  She was buried on December 28th, 1845 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
